About the DS Venturists
Welcome to the second-cycle of DS VENTURISTS! An enterprising, exciting and unique take on today’s global business world. As young individuals, we believe that the qualities a business platform gives us are redeemable in all aspects of our lives—personal and professional. Moreover, creating a holistic stage for aspiring pupils can lead to future ambitions and talented creations. The objective of the VENTURISTS is to leverage exceptional intellectual talent from the Emirate's very own student population to solve major global business issues. The competition is designed to challenge students in presenting solutions to contemporary 'wicked’ problems from a global business perspective. Importantly, DS VENTURISTS is designed to foster cross-border and cross-discipline collaborations to create solutions that capture inspiring, creative and transformative business opportunities for industries, regions and countries.
Categories of the DS Venturists
Testimonials
The Quiz - Which includes a rapid-fire round will be conducted in front of a live audience. It includes general knowledge, current business events, business economic theories, to mention a few.
Marketing - Teams will be provided with a theme and they are allowed to come prepared. They will have an allotted time of three hours to pitch a marketing plan.
Innovation and Differentiation – A unique twist on a major part of business and marketing. It tests the ability to make something valuable out of *anything*. Participants are given a basic, ubiquitous product and asked to pitch their innovative product or idea to the judges. Participants will be judged on their presentation skills, product efficiency, added value and overall attraction.
Survival - Participating teams will be allocated a major, or popular business in the modern world. The teams will then have to conduct research on those businesses, their values, major historical events, packaging, etc. at the beginning of the competition. They will then be presented with a series of ‘crisis’ points where the business will have to rethink and produce a solution in regards to PR,
packaging, advertising, and finance.

DS Venturists is the first-ever business competition hosted by Dubai Scholars. The event is led by a core team made up of Sixth Form Students. The event not only aims at giving exposure to our participants in a mock business world, but
the first competition also provided participants with first-hand experience in entrepreneurship. Furthermore, the competition helps enhance skills such as effective communication, collaboration, problem-solving and decision making. It supports innovative ideas and boosts confidence as well as self-esteem. Overall it is an excellent and worldly event of which participants will come back with more than just wonderful memories!
One such experience was sent by St. Mary’s team:
"DS Venturists has been a wonderful learning experience. Taking part in the Quiz category, we were required to research about the recent happenings in the business world. This required an immense amount of teamwork and communication as we had to delegate and co-ordinate different aspects of research and develop an efficient strategy on how we could answer each round. We were unable to win, however, the heat and pressure in the due moments of the event is an experience we enjoyed thoroughly. Despite our efforts, we were unable to win. In spite of this, the heat and pressure from the competition have made this experience quite enjoyable. We do hope that we will be able to partake in this competition again."

“The DS Venturists, an inter-school Business competition hosted by Dubai Scholars gave an opportunity for students of many schools to showcase their business acumen. It was a fun, interesting and a very good learning experience for us. Moreover, it was a well-organized event and the volunteers and staff were very welcoming. Through this competition, we developed public speaking skills, portrayed our business knowledge and our ability to pitch our proposal within a given time. In addition, we gained
the courage and confidence in ourselves and happened to achieve the winning prize .”

Rules and Regulations
- Entries are accepted from Tuesday, 17th September to Wednesday, 2nd October 2019.

- All participants are expected to register with their full names.
-The event is free-for-all.
​
-Each school must nominate a group with a minimum of 3 team members and can go up to a maximum of 5 team members.
​
-Four teams per school can be registered and its members can be a mix of the final three high school grades (ex; grades 10, 11,12 or grades 11, 12, 13)
​
-Each team must apply through their assisting teacher or business teaching faculty.
​
-Only a maximum of two supervising teachers may be accompanied per school.
​
-Registrations will be considered complete only if the names of ALL the team members along with the supervising teacher's name and email are provided.
